An easy 3.7 mile circular walk around the Duloch area utilising the new paths in Calais Muir Woods. Various options are available for this walk and the following is just one possible suggestion.
Start at Duloch Sports and Leisure Centre where there is parking and public transport. If insufficient parking during school hours, there is plenty of parking in the nearby shopping centre. Do not park in the area of Calais Muir School.
Turn left into Duloch park and follow the surfaced path through the park towards Duloch Pond. Cross over the small bridge and walk round the west side of the pond. Keep to the side of the pond taking a grassy path away from the surfaced track. This path can be a bit wet after heavy rain. Follow the path as it takes round the pond keeping the water to your right. As you approach the south end of the pond take a rough path off to your left that leads into the woods.
The path will very quickly join a newly constructed surfaced path in the woods (the red Gypsy Way trail) which is part of a network on new paths. Turn left on to the path and follow it up to the north end of the woods where it turns right. The open land to your left at this point includes some rough paths where people have been doggy walking. At the time of writing the ground is expected to become a new campus for Fife College which may open up some new paths in the area in the future. Follow the surfaced path along the north edge of the woods and round to the right at the eastern edge. Ignore the blue route that joins on your left. As you walk southwards along the eastern edge of the woods you will come to a very rough path on your left hand side sign posted with a purple core path arrow. Take this path which leads you out to the main road.
Take care crossing over the main road and pick up the path on the opposite side of the road on the left hand side of the Amazon warehouse.Initially this path is well surfaced but after crossing a bridge across the motorway it become an unsurfaced farm track. Follow the track to a T junction where you turn right to head south. After about 1km this path brings you out on to the busy Aberdour Road.
Turn right on to the road walking along the pavement to cross over the motorway. 250m after the motorway bridge there is a gate on your right hand side. This is the start of a rough core path across the field. The path route follows the edge of the field next to the trees. It can be quite hard to follow and difficult underfoot. Keep to the left of the roundabout at Amazon and follow the tree line as it turns left. By now you should be able to pick up a bit of a path that takes you west back out to the road.
If you find the above section too difficult underfoot, it is possible go straight on and then to turn right into Beauly Crescent instead of going through the gate into the field after crossing the motorway. From Beauly Crescent there are connecting paths to Cowal Place from where you can walk through to Kyle Crescent and Lorn Place. Cross over the grass at the small play area to join the rough path that takes you out to Sandpiper Drive.
Take care crossing over Sandpiper Drive to reach the grass on the opposite side. Slightly to your left is an entrance back into Calais Muir Woods. From here you can walk directly back to the Leisure Centre or if you turn right you can extend you walk slightly by following the yellow (Enchanted Walk) trail which soon turns left to take you back across the woods to the car park. There are wood carvings and points of interest along this trail.
It would be possible to combine this walk with a walk around Fordell.
